Eurohaptics 2024 - ABILITY project work presented

1 July 2024

Details

We had the chance to present some of the work conducted in ABILITY with the University of Lund and CEA teams at the Eurohaptics Conference in Lille, in July. In fact, the University of Lund team presented their work on lo-fi prototyping a pin display. This work was part of the WP2 that they are leading, where, in the absence of a functional 2D pin display, they organised lo-fi workshops with a lo-fi pin display to investigate with blind and visually impaired users potential interactions on the pin display and together with the vibrotactile localised feedback display. These workshops were conducted in Lithuania, Germany and France with the help of the other partners in the consortium. All the results are available in the WP2 deliverables (available publicly on the website).

In parallel, the CEA team presented their work both on the development of the pin display, through the presentation of a work in progress and a demonstration of the localised vibrotactile feedback tablet. Both work received very good feedback from the attendees.

In fact, the ABILITY work received recognition from experts in haptics and the conference participants through an honourable mention for the work-in-progress by Esteban Madoux and Charles Hudin from CEA and the nomination for the best poster for the paper by Charlotte Magnusson, Taqwa Saeed and Kirsten Rassmus-Gröhn from the University of Lund. This is a great motivation to continue our work and as promised to many attendees, we hope to showcase even more at the next haptics conference in 2025.
