Latest news on the pin display

2026 m. sausio 30 d.

Detalės

The CEA team has continued working on a novel pin display, relying on a novel principle based on remote actuation. They iterated on several pin geometries to take into account user requirements elicited through studies and user expectations, in terms of holding force, the ability of the pin to restore itself to its current state despite a hard press and the refresh rate. Positive results were achieved, notably in terms of holding force and refresh rate. However, due to engineering issues related to the small scale (mm range) of the geometries, the pins do not always have a repeatable behaviour (as demonstrated in the video). Yet, the principle was validated as pins can be remotely actuated and reach high and low positions. More information is provided in the public deliverable D3.4, which will be available in a few months, after the project's end, end of February.

In the meantime, please check out this short video showing the pins (with the tangible dot) being raised or lowered in 0.6 s.

You can also follow the work achieved by the PhD candidate E. Madoux who will continue this endeavour after the project until his PhD defense.
